Based in the Taos Ski Valley and designed for children from first grade and up , our camps focus on hands-on learning experiences. Throughout each of the two week day camp sessions, we focus on several different themes (archeology, river ecology, wildlife biology, orienteering, etc.). We explore each theme and our surroundings through hikes, field notes and drawings, organized activities, art projects, and games. The older children's sessions included an overnight. We also offer two one week sessions that include backpacking trips.

Horseback riding with Al Johnson, also known as Big Al, is like slipping back into the 1930's and the good ole cowboy days. Big Al has been taking visitors to heights they may have never been to before. Beginners or experienced riders Big Al doesn't mind because he makes certain you are secure in your horseback riding skills and matched to the right horse for your skills levels.
When asked why he chose to stay in the mountains and teach tourists how to ride horses, his answer is very poetic, in a cowboy-sort-of-way. Big Al simply stated "Pretty horses on a pretty day with pretty people in a pretty place earning a pretty nickel, Well that's a pretty good way of life!" To schedule a horseback ride, contact Big Al through email at bigaltsv@taosnet.com.

Imagine yourself floating through the air, gliding on the soft desert winds, as the splendor of the Rio Grande Gorge passes beneath you. Imagine a panoramic view of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains or the high carpet of sagebrush. Then come join us for an unforgettable ballooning experience. The breath-taking views were inspirational, and the New Mexico scenery is beyond words and description. Silently slipping along the sage-brush covered plain, and watching the ground open up into the magnificent Rio Grande Gorge was a once-in-a-lifetime revelation of beauty and awe. The sweet slide into the chasm was a tremendous thrill, expertly handled by Ed.

"As we rose out of the rocky opening, the landscape spread out before us like a golden carpet. The chase crew below followed us, and assisted in a perfect landing. Later, our delicious brunch in Taos was a delight, and the conversation lively as the bubbles in the champagne.

This was a dream, and we thank all of those involved. Pueblo Balloons are the best!"

Then it is on to our own solar system, viewing the planets visible that night and moon if it is up. Depending on the time of year, the rings of Saturn, Jupiter's great red spot and moons are all plainly visible. The polar ice caps, surface color variations and dust storms of Mars, the crescent phases, and beautiful cloud tops of Venus and the green disk of Uranus all show their beauty through the eyepiece. The space walk feel of the Moons surface at over 300 power is simply breathtaking.
